House and Jefferson Memorial
The White House
is the official home and principal workplace of the President
of the United States of America. The house is built of white-painted
Aquia sandstone in the late Georgian style. It is located
at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. As the office
of the U.S. President, the term "White House" is
used as a metonym for a U.S. president's administration.

Smithsonian
Institution
The world famous
Smithsonian Institution is located in the District. The Smithsonian
today is a collection of museums that includes the Anacostia
Museum, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Hirshhorn Museum, National
Air and Space Museum, National Museum of American History,
National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of
Natural History, National Portrait Gallery, National Postal
Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Renwick Gallery,
and the National Zoo.

There are many art museums in D.C., in addition to those that are part of
the Smithsonian, including the National Gallery of Art, National Museum of Women in the
Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Phillips Collection.

of Congress

The Library of
Congress is the de facto national library of the United States
and the research arm of the United States Congress. Located
in Washington, D.C., it is one of the largest and most important
libraries in the world. Its collections include more than
30 million catalogued books and other print materials in 470
languages, more than 58 million manuscripts, the largest rare
book collection in North America, including a Gutenberg Bible,
one of only three perfect vellum copies known to exist, three
centuries.
