Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton from the McLaren team yesterday said the UK Pavilion would showcase a "young and fashionable" image of the country through the innovative "Seed Cathedral," as he said the biggest features of British cities were their green approach and innovation.

He said during a visit to the UK Pavilion that it was a misunderstanding to view the nation as an outmoded and conservative country, and the pavilion would help change such stereotypes.

The pavilion is ready to open. The "Seed Cathedral" is the centerpiece, which is pierced by more than 60,000 acrylic rods containing a variety of seeds from different plants.

The "Seed Cathedral" is surrounded by an area designed to look like wrapping paper, signifying a gift of friendship to China.

Hamilton is in Shanghai for the F1 Grand Prix race on Sunday.
